To try to discover the future through tarot cards, palm reading, Ouija, rocks / stones / crystals / elements, or another form of divination, or attempt to control the future through black magic, witchcraft violates first commandment. Keep in mind that divination is intrinsically linked to the practice of the occult. Sacred Scriptural convictions has many of these activities: In the Old Testament, we find: "A man or woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning: they have no one but themselves themselves to blame for their death "(Leviticus 20:27), and" What is not among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, nor a seer, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster, or one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord ... "(Deuteronomy 18:10-12).
The first commandment repeated condemnation of divination: "All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, evocation of the dead or other practices falsely supposed to" unveil "the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history and ultimately , other human beings, and a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, love and fear that we owe to God alone "(No. 2116). Any practice that uses occult powers is condemned as contrary to true religion and is generally considered a mortal sin. Any specific invocation of the devil would obviously be a mortal sin. (Please note that only readig a horoscope in the newspaper or the message inside the fortune cookie, and having a laugh is not a mortal sin, but to take such a serious or horoscope pay for advice of astrologers is.)
We believe, as St. John wrote, "God is love" (I John 4:16). God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life "(John 3:16). Jesus is the light of the world, shines in the darkness (John 1:4 - 5). He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). To invoke Satan or any other power to enter into the darkness (the occult) for help, or attempt to usurp powers that belong to God alone is a challenge to the authority of God Almighty. To commit such acts is to turn away from God and place our own souls in jeopardy.
Adhering to the revelation of Scripture, the Church has over the centuries formally condemned witches and witchcraft, and found that the divination, the tarot card reading and other sinful. The Didache (The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, c. 80) warned, "You can not practice magic."
And all the prophecy come true sometimes, admittedly, a broken watch is correct twice a day.
