You have good advice for non-alcoholic beer + ginger / or products? Never tried to brew beer, but said his delicate little trial and error perhaps. would like to brew ginger beer .......
If you're interested in learning to homebrew, I recommend you check http://www.howtobrew.com and http://www.homebrewtalk.com//index.php?r ... the two best sources of information online. I would also suggest you get a copy of Charlie Papazian's book "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing is the quintessence of the Bible for homebrewers.
Regarding the equipment goes, you want to take a "starter kit" from your local store homebrew, or online at http://www.midwestsupplies.com or http://www.autinhomebrew.com . The starter kit includes all the equipment needed to brew 5 gallons of beer at a time.
Homebrewing is not really difficult as you remember to sterilize everything that comes in contact with your beer. Other than that, it's like cooking, follow the recipe you gave, and everything will be fine.
Feel free to email me anytime if you have further questions.
Charlie Papazian book has some good recipes for ginger beer. Of course, you can also get several decent free recipes if you look around.
Check www.byo.com they have an excellent guide for beginners beer and loss tips and recipes. You do not have to spend much money, either ... a clean (new thinking) 5 gallon pail with a lid (with rubber), the pot large enough for a couple of gallons, about 1 - or 2 bottles of soda and a few liters Tubing NEW is a hardware configuration that works. The more ingredients and a little yeast (check for local homebrew supply place or online). It's really not hard, the key is cleanliness.
And ... a woman who loves beer? You've already scored points. Enjoy!
With all due respect to the previous responders (and much is due), I know that the ginger beer is almost non-alcoholic (1-2% ABV). This looks more like ginger ale. I make mine with lemons (zest and juice), sugar, fresh ginger crushed, water, Nutrasweet, and dry ale yeast. It is much easier to do than real ale. Email me if you want the recipe. Of course, the real beer is good too.
