Chinese New Year Horoscope

I understand that a person of Chinese zodiac is based on the day of the new year began in the year they were born. For example, a person can be born in January 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 etc, and they can not be born in the year of the tiger if they are born early in January (one of the years indicated ) and the Chinese New Year began in February. So my question is how do you learn the date of Chinese New Year began in the year of your birth?
