Family History Centers are operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have access to a wealth of genealogical records held at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. With more than 4,500 centers located Latter-day Saints throughout the United States and countries abroad, you can easily find one near you.

Records at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah include:

  • Pedigree Resource Files on compact discs and digital video
  • International Genealogical Index Records
  • Archived vital records on microfilm and microfiche
  • Books Family History
  • Classifications
  • Atlas
  • Maps and more.

You can find this information from the resource centers or online via the website of Latter-day Saints. Internet connectivity is available in most centers, some with online subscriptions, websites for genealogical research. Pedigree Resource Files that are stored on compact discs may also be available at the centers for use in your search or they can be purchased online via the website of Latter Day Saints church.

These centers are designed to help the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints members identify their ancestors and provide temple ordinances. However, everyone is welcome to use the centers for their research for free. There is a small sum to microfiche, films or books of the Library of Utah to cover shipping.

The Family History Centers are volunteers who can provide guidance on the titles of the herd's Family History Library, answer some research questions, and help you use center resources. Also through these centers, you can order microfilm and microfiche and books of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Most centers also offer training courses on a variety of topics of genealogical research for their bosses. Opening hours at the centers of history are determined by each center individually if you need to call and check availability before you visit them. They may also be available to guide you to other agencies that can help you trace the paths of your ancestor.
