I was told repeatedly that Sony has some sort of contract which prohibits Square Final Fantasy VII to be included in a console competitor, but I never facts or reliable sources. I know that Sony has released the game for PlayStation, but this argument is invalid because Nintendo has released few games that are now on Xbox and Xbox 360.
As far as I know, "exclusive" is not a permanent addition.

It is not. SE are the rightful owners and all legal rights they own.
I know because HE is actually considering doing so again right now. Part of their review is the thought which is the best console to release it on. This is great news, it has even MTV!

what it really ... game will remain an exclusive ... some will change the status of exclusive ago .... and some are simply not exclusive

would it have something to do with this demo they did with FF7 by chance?

It was a re-make of the introduction, which would be playable on Xbox and PS3 format apparently ...

Nintendo has the rigths to FF1-FF6
Sony has all the rigths to Final Fantasy 7-10
