Red Wine Storage Temperature

Red Wine Storage TemperatureWhat is the best storage temperature for a variety of red wines?

Cabernet, Pinot Black, Zinfandels, Syrah, Merlot

If your talking about storage in a cellar. The temperature should be cool and be consistent. You do not want to store the bottles in your garage that sees the cold winter and hot summer. I use a closet hallway. It has a constant temperature in the mid 60s. My office has about 50 bottles at this time.

storage of these wines can be performed at room temperature is not how to serve a Cabernet Merlot different story and no warmer than 70 degrees yet radiator then 65 Pinot Noir and Syrah should be slightly chilled that would be 55-65 degrees and that for Zinfandel, they are all classified as white wines and must be refrigerated and will keep you warm at 45 degrees with the only exception would be black Zinfandel

all but the Zinfandel are best stored on their side at room temperature, but the zin should be refrigerated on the side so the cork does not dry out

68 degrees or temp ... here in tx 68 is not the ambient temperature so I put mine in the refrigerator for about 10 min. I tested with wine and a therm his act pretty. For red wines, be sure to leave "breathe" or decant for about 10-15 min.

The simple answer is about 60F. If you do not have a room that is cool, just try to find the coolest, darkest place you have. Just under 70 should be fine.

Personally, I like what David E:
"The ideal conditions for storing wine long term (of any type - red / white / champagne) is 58 degrees F with a humidity of 70% in light of the sun (or any light for that matter) and vibration free storage location.

The bottles should be laid on their side (to ensure the cork remains lubricated) and the bottle must be rested as much as possible. "

Of all the websites I'm on and I talked to experts are the ideal conditions.

Depends on the wine, I have others that are stored at room temperature, some of which are stored at 10, and others who are chilled to a nice 5 refreshing.

In these conditions, the wines will keep well for many decades.

Red wines should be allowed to warm up a bit (61-64 degrees) before the service. moaned white should be chilled to about 46 degrees to 0-60 days before the service.

If you keep a few bottles and not the ability or desire to create your own cellar, you can keep them without significant deterioration over a year at room temperature and humidity or standing on the side (It years to be the cap to dry and deteriorate). Just keep them away from sunlight, heat or cold, and vibration. In other words do not put them on the windowsill or in the cupboard next to the furnace fan.

Red wines are usually stored at about 65 degrees. Damp and cool spots are the best storage (like a basement). It is OK for them to have a slight shudder. Do not store them in an area that tends to heat, like near an oven or a window.
