Best server hardware for the Web site of value to medium scale on Linux? What do you suggest? Dell, HP, IBM, Sun ... I know it, IBM offers the best server running on Linux?
Or is this the best idea to buy equipment used equipment?
Or what about building some boxes from scratch?
This site runs on Linux and will last an average scale dynamic Web sites with server-side language.

All of the above listed sell servers with Linux pre-installed, which virtually guarantees compatibility with Linux. There are a few exceptions, it is possible that a component can have a "binary-only driver that works only with the distribution and preinstalled.
I do not know how to make a specific recommendation, not knowing your budget, traffic, web applications, or support staff of your organization.
I'm sure a new office budget range would be enough power for the LAMP web server with thousands of hits per day.
I work for a midsize company and our web servers run on custom built computers, but our staff is familiar with the manufacture of computers and we have a good idea of what components work well with Linux. We want to build our own because we can control what items go into the machines, and can build machines very reliable.
Both the hardware works with Linux, it is easier to find what does not. Here is a good site for that: http://leenooks.com/
