Vickers Scale

Vickers ScaleGold rings: three essential facts

Three Things You Should Know About Gold Wedding Bands
When it comes to buying a gold wedding band, things can quickly become confused. What is the color of gold you want? What karat will best suit your needs?

Gold is the most popular choice for wedding, and very popular in dress rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches. Gold is easy to accessorize with, and it is sustainable. There are three things to consider when looking at wedding rings in gold.

First, you should look at the number carats. A carat measures the proportion of pure gold mixed with other metal alloys to make up the final metal. There are several carats available for gold, wedding bands, but most men employ 9-carat, 14 carat and 18 carat. Since a ring of 18 carats has a higher proportion of gold to a 14-carat, 18 - carat will be more expensive. Although there is more of a carat ring of 18 carats, it is generally accepted that 22-carat gold 24 carat is too soft to make wedding rings for men.

Karat stamps do not indicate the durability and hardness of gold, however. When choosing your wedding ring, it is important to consider your own lifestyle. How often do you wear the ring? Do you work with your hands? Can your ring be easily scratched or bent?

metal hardness is measured by what is called the Vickers scale. The higher the score Vickers, more metal. A 9-carat ring has a Vickers score of 120 and a 18-carat has a score of 125. The difference is so minimal that 9 carat and 18 carat rings are substantially the same in terms of hardness.

Then you should consider the color of gold. Gold comes in several colors: yellow, white, pink, bronze, and lime. Alliances can also be performed using two or three different shades of gold, creating a unique color.

Adding an alloy of gold creates different colors. For example, gold rose is made using a mixture of pure gold with alloys including copper. Copper gives red color. Forms yellow gold from a mixture of pure gold and alloys of metals such as copper and zinc, white gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals (silver and palladium.)

Natural white gold has a gray tint, which is covered by the addition of a rhodium plating. Rhodium is also used to make jewelry more difficult, but it does not go away after about 12-18 months. You can get your jewelry re-rhodium at your local jeweler.

There are many options when it comes to choosing a covenant, but ultimately, you must be sure the ring you choose is right for you and your lifestyle. After all, the ring is a symbol of your love and marriage, it should suit you perfectly.
